If I could give no stars I would. My son and I went there this AM for breakfast. The reviews were excellent. It was a horrible experience. It started with my coffee, there was what looked like coffee grounds floating everywhere. Typically I wouldn’t care much, but there was a larger thing float and I couldn’t tell what it was. The waitress was rude from the start. Horrible attitude, clearly did not want to be there. I asked for another cup of coffee to which she reluctantly got. Left my other cup of coffee on the table. We couldn’t even put out drinks down on the table due to it wobbling around so much it kept spilling and going through the cracks onto my feet and purse. It took about 30-35 minutes to get our food in an almost empty diner. My son first noticed his scrambled eggs were runny, so I cut into my omelette, to which was completely undercooked. I let the cook know (whom I think is the owner) he was extremely rude and disrespectful. He said it was the cheese. I am a chef myself so I can tell the difference. He made some rude comments to me in front of the few customers that were there and made another one. The waitress came over and pretty much threw the plate on the table and walked away. At that point I was done and my son was so disgusted he wanted to leave. The cook asked in a sarcastic manner of it was better, I was so disgusted also with the service and attitude, I asked for a box and at least one of the waitresses was nice (at the front counter) and brought a box. The waitress came over and with a snotty attitude told me what I owed. I told her that being rude to customers isn’t a way to have them come back and that we live in town. She said nothing, no apology or anything. We will never refer anyone to them or ever go back there again. I have provided photos of the runny eggs on my food and my sons. And no, there’s no cheese on his scrambled eggs.

The Chili Omelet and The Western are my 2 favorites! You can tell the owner cares about his food. The chili is homemade and has a nice kick to it! Honestly my favorite breakfast place in winsted!

Revisited this morning to enjoy a two egg western omelette with home fries and rye toast. My partner liked his Belgian waffle with bacon. We had an agreeable exchange of dialogue with the owner and a senior solo patron who came in for coffee and a blueberry muffin. I was given a taste of his Philly cheese steak omelette as he was preparing some for a take-out breakfast wrap. Nice flavors. The omelette was very good and the bacon perfectly cooked through and crispy from the grill. Still need to try his chili dog! # Nice local diner and owner who serves up breakfast, burgers, and homemade chili for his hot dogs. He also makes his own ice cream from scratch, vanilla and chocolate, which is becoming a needed staple at area events. A small interior with a dozen counter seats, has an additional tented space outside with outdoor heaters. Fries are made fresh from an old fashioned wall mounted cutter. Service wasn't too attentive as local dialogue seemed to dominate the room between the owner and regular patrons. Our two orders, a double cheeseburger and a bacon Swiss cheeseburger with mushrooms and caramelized onions were substantial in size. Mine, ordered medium rare, was served well. I expected this to be the case, with so much conversation going on during the cooking process, and presses over the meat. Still, juicy and filling with plenty of bacon, mushrooms and onions. My partner who orders well-done meat, happily packed down his large double. Fries are extra. The omlettes the other patrons ordered, were perfectly cooked. The eggs weren't scorched which is common in the area. Light and fluffy. Look forward to trying breakfast and a chili dog soon. I bet a milkshake with the fresh ice cream will be tasty, too.
