Simple, home cooking. Rice, beans, a crunchy taco. Go here when you miss mama! Relax, look at the people, enjoy the food and the homemade tortillas. The taco with pork is best with the chili sauce given at the front counter.

A San Diego icon. Authentic Mexican food like mi abuelita used to make. I’ve been coming here for years and yes there is always a line for a reason.

It’s good, but nothing spectacular. The charm is is in the authenticity and the history. The food is pretty bland though. The fresh tortillas are bomb and the price is right but if you’re in town visiting looking for good Mexican, you can do better. It kills me to leave a “negative” review as so many people obviously love this place. It’s good enough but there’s better to be found all across San Diego.

Getting my San Diego history lesson here. Haven’t heard about this place until my son told us about. It’s a must try when you come to San Diego. Las Cuatro Milpas is an establishment in San Diego. Everyone is talking about their tacos and tamales. After reading the Yelp reviews, we came early to try to beat the crowd. But we were still too late. Took us almost half an hour to get to the ordering counter. Once we get there, the ordering process was fast. The chorizo egg was delicious and authentically Mexican. You have to wrap your own fillings in a provided tortilla. Unlike other California style breakfast chorizo with eggs, this one has rice and very wet sauce. The taco was fried and filled with tasty meat and bean. The most popular item here is the tamale. The taste of the tamale is so unique. Lastly, the tortillas were all home made and the texture is soft and chewy. We got ourselves two dozens to take home. You can also dine in here but prepare to experience the hole in the wall environment. Parking is in the street and prepare walk quite a distance.

Yes for $3, but they only let you buy 1 dozen due to their popularity. If you order in advance they will make as many dozens flour tortilla as you want to purchase. Girl make sure you taste the Frijoles con chorizo y huevos pairwd with the hot oil salsa w/chicharrones. Hope I was a help to you.
Everything is freshly made and delicious
Good food, inexpensive, long lines, but worth the wait. I think on weekend they open around 7, give them a call for times l have been eating there for over 50 years
Traditional and authentic, keeping it simple.
The Menudo is perfect.. only served weekend s.. Line around the building ? And the Block ?? Means the food is good.. Each time I go ?? I wait 30 min to 45 sometimes before food is served.. it's a cash only place.. Bring your Patience cap!?? Foodbis worth waiting for..
They have corn tortillas but they don't have anything gluten free and they don't serve beef, only pork and chicken. These are old Mexican ladies who have been making delicious homemade food for decades. Don't even dare ask if they have gluten free or vegan/vegetarian options, it's an insult to them LOL
They are not closing
You cant go wrong with anything, but for a first time, try one each of the tacos and some rice and beans...
I like the pork tacos, tamales, and beans. It's all mildly seasoned. But everything is slow cooked and has hidden flavor that comes alive if you add the lime, celantro, onions ,and hot sauce offered. Its like adding a touch of water to a fine scotch. Make it as spicy as you like.
Specialty is handmade tortillas, home southern Mexico simple flavor beans and rice and their tacos YUM! AND MENUDO😀
no
Keeping 6 feet apart, must wear face mask all the time
Dear God I hope not! They're an institution. Not the best about answering the phone, but they will. Don't call during peak time (which is most of the day). Call first thing in the morning or wait till maybe 2:30.
They usually don't answer the phone. The staff is so small since there is no indoor dining. Just have to go down and hop in line.
Cash only, I do.not believe they have an ATM, they are very old school. And people don't go in there thinking you can order a "Carne Asada Burrito" save that for Roberto's taco shop.
No keep trying or just show up. Even if u Phone in u still got to wait in line
Chorizo and eggs, beans and spanish rice.
They're open only for breakfast and lunch so they're not open on Christmas Eve or any "eve."
No..... You need to be present. Also CASH ONLY
No beer but they allow you to bring your own. At least they used to. Best Mexican food in San Diego hands down
No
Food is fresh daily. They cook all the fresh food early for us to enjoy all day.
Yes, they get so much business they close early for family time!
I don't know about preorder. On a cold winters morning last Thursday, at about 9:15 the wait was 45 minutes. I was told normal wait is 1:00-1:45 depending on time of day and day of week.
Lomas lines asta abbado. And it closes during this week.
Yes you can...you don't have to make line either....just go straight to the cashier.
