Why are employees allowed to wear confederate flags with their uniform? Does Wendy's condone racism and slavery?

I was contacted by Paul, the Regional Manager in charge of the restaurant. He stated that : "Wendy’s nor Pilot corporate condone “celebratory racism and slavery” in our culture. I am sorry that we as management did not catch the necklace, as our culture requires all items, such as jewelry or tattoos, that may be deemed as inappropriate be removed or covered for this very situation."
