You may also want to get a HD reader that you can attatch to any pc/labtop to see if the data is still there. It also allows data transfer. Otherwise take it to a place that can recover data if you really need it.
Check with WD the warranty status. They have good tracking records.
If you have purchased your WD Passport recently, I recommend contacting Western Digital directly first and see if they will repair it under warranty or replace it as a defective product. If this does not work, take it back to the place of purchase (I assume it is Best Buy) and ask them for an exchange. Do these before trying a repair place.
I think is better to look online &ow to fix the issue. Like Google it. Otherwise you can go to any best buy store and probably they would help you.
