The turtles are all in the water. Along with several alligators. It would be a bad decision to try it.

Its generally not a good idea to molest wildlife like that, especially since a police outpost is nearby. Plus, they tend to be in the water. However, there are tons of animals to photograph from a respectful distance.

They would be hard to catch and would be dangerous with gators. Sheriff's dept. Is in front of Cooter Pond. All around a bad idea. I take pictures from the boardwalk with no problem.
