The "beach" is in Assateague park so no hotel is close, since you have to go into a park to get to it.
Like others said you are close but its still a 5-10 min drive depending on traffic/people stopped along the road in the park. You could walk through the park however during the summer it can be unbearable hot and filled with enough bugs to be scary. If you are worried about the distance i wouldnt worry this is close but even then the island isnt large enough to make the short drive awful. Btw you can also rent bikes and ride through.
It's closer than the in-town hotels. There are only a couple that are closer. The other answers are also correct. Have fun!

Not far driving..May depend on traffic. If not very crowded you can be there 5 to 10 minutes...
