Most rooms have two queen beds, has this changed, and how do you know if that is what is in the room?

Agreed.. you can always just ask them. Some rooms have two queens.. some have a king. The preference is yours.. just ask them which is offered.

It hasn't changed. Depends on what you ask for a king is just one bed and queen is normally two beds in a room.
