They are pathetic...my last visit was the first and the last one im sure.
The staff at Applebys wants their customers to be happy and to be return customers. Therefore I would ask the waiter to get the manager and then quietly explain what happened. Say that you do not think you should have to pay for your meals since your appetite was ruined. Be polite, yet firm. If the manager agrees, I would probably still leave an appropriate tip, and come back again. If not, I would not return.
I would bring to their attention, as being manager I would be endlessly apologetic and offer you a replacement meal free and free dinner offer.
