They also owned Jack's Salad Bowl on Whittier Blvd., a little east of the 605, around about Broadway, until they sold it in early 2000's. New owner made changes and it wasn't a year before he sold it. The building might even be gone now.
I believe that on the wall where they have some original memorabilia from when the restaurant opened, there is a picture of the original owner. Jack's is still family owned, but by a different family now. Next time you are in there ask Juan, the night manager, anything you want to know about Jack's. He should have an answer for you. Juan has worked there at Jack's for 30+ years. Juan started as a bus boy and has worked his way up to manage Jack's plus another restaurant that is owned by the current ownership of Jack's.
Do you get dessert with dinner included like the Jacks that was on Carmenita/Orangethorpe?
My 85 year young Aunt now a resident in Arkansas spoke of “the salad bowl” today. One of her favorite restaurants when she lived here with her husband from 1957 through 1968.
Just ate there two days in a row with each one of my daughters. We started eating there in the early 80's. The group of restaurants were Jack's, Keno's, Lancer's and the Carriage House. The Carriage House was sadly pushed out to make way for a McDonalds burger joint. The movie The Founder is how Ray Kroc TOOK over the the McDonald's restaurant from the two McDonald brothers, educational with sad twist.
We really don't know what Sr. Jack looked like but it would be something intersting to look up in google. Jacks still a family restaurant and has a great ambience. Great service and food.
Don't really know that answer Google the history of the restaurant you should get your answer there?
Family still owns this and a few others
Wow Herb. Good question. I don't know. Maybe you can Google it 😀
