Were the Native American children who lived at the Shawnee Indian Mission voluntarily moved there? Or was this an idea of white people who thought they knew best for Indians?

The information presented there indicated it was voluntary, and to teach occupational skills. Indians from all across the country came and the initial focus was an altruistic one, and not coercive.

As far as I know, some were due to the fact their parents wanted them to get a white man's education, but most were moved against their will
