It's freezing in here and the lights are on full blast. No wonder I am the only one here. Why can't you turn down the lights, the a/c and play soothing music?

You can always ask them and they will take care. Specially when there is no many people and the music plays a bit too loud. But not all stores are the same. The majority of the stores have very nice people working there willing to help customers.
