They have a special building covered with netting where the butterflies are free to go to the flowers throughout the building. They also give you q tips that you dip in sugar water to try and get the butterflies to come to you. The monarch butterflies are released in August or September for their flight to the south.
Our Butterfly House is one of our summer exhibits. All our seasonal summer exhibits are open each year from mid-June through mid-September. This year, our summer hours are Monday-Saturday 10 am-4 pm, and Sundays 12-5 pm. In mid-September, we do our Butterfly Release Day where visitors can assist with tagging and releasing the monarch butterflies (the date for this year is TBD). Please check our website closer to the release for the specific date.
They always have live butterflies this time of year. I am not sure when the Monarch Release is though, but I am thinking more at the end of summer.
