Ely for is about 4 rivet miles upstream from hunting run. Makes a laid back slow tubing trip to hunting run. Lots of flat water, 4 rapids spaced out, and can be very shallow in summer. Downstream of hunting run, Motts is 8.5 miles. Not tube friendly. Too long. Good paddling water. Motts to riverside drive in town is a great tubing trip. And from there to Old Mill Park is awesome too.
The next decent landing area from Hunting Run is Motts Run. You can keep getting it past there to a few points around downtown Fredericksburg. If you're on a tube, you probably won't want to go past Motts Run as it would take a good part of 8+ hours. On a yak it takes about 6.5 hours with a few swimming stops. Definitely don't recommend a canoe on this part of the river. The confluence can be an animal for canoeing (I've seen it many of times and you'd definitely have a much better time on a SOT yak. Hope this helps!
