I'm as pro-constitution as you can get. You have no constitutional right to not have bags full of a business's merchandise matched with a receipt to ensure that you purchased said items. If they are asking to go through your pockets that is a different story.
We do not lose our rights just because we’re on private property. What the poster is referring to is probably unreasonable search and seizure which is when law enforcement searches without probable cause. I’m not sure if the person standing at the exit counts as law enforcement though so this may not qualify for that. I understand the businesses need to help reduce shrink/theft. It’s a major issue for them especially with self checkout. They are checking the shopping bags not me or my purse.
Don't steal anything, you will have no problem
As Araon has said you have no constitutional rights on private property. By now people should have learned what private property is and constitutional rights. It is as simple as this you don't want to follow a company's rules or requirements, then shop elsewhere.
