They have a program to volunteer to do just that. You need to pass some blood tests and interviews.
Honestly, I’m a vet that would hang out in the smoke shack between my appts, almost 4 years ago before I had my daughter, and met a lot of nice guys there that just wanted someone to talk and visit with and sometimes we’d have lunch together in the cafeteria, only difficult part was when someone you knew passed away

Not the mental health patients, but there are plenty of other patients that would appreciate someone coming to visit even if they don't know you.
