It's due to the incredibly wet season we're currently having, in years past it wasn't near as bad. However, this year has been as you know a wet one, and along with the wetness came the insects. As for you're suggestion for a bug zapper, I say it's a Damm good idea
Bug zappers can actually pose more of a problem. They seem to be getting the job done because of all the dead insects around, but they actually tend to attract more insects than they kill
They used to have them.
