You need 2 forms of ID. Valid Passport is one of them The other one can be your original birth certificate along with the translation. The translation must be done by one of the approved translators. List can be found on DMV website. If you can't prove your legal status you will be able to get a DAC. Fee for written Test (first time) is $26. Retake is $11. You can test once a day. Instruction Permit (if you pass the written test) is $23.25. Appointment needed. Walk-ins ok on Saturday only but you will have to line up really early (around 4am) to be able to get a number. Also, 2 proofs of residency (less than 60 days) is required. Completed application (Form DMV 002) is also required. You can print from the website or get one once you are there.
