So I switch to xfinty, from Verizon. Do I need to call them to cancel my account? Or did that happen automatically?

Even if someone from Xfinity offered to cancel your Verizon service, you should call Verizon. It is your responsibility to make sure your account has been closed. Mistakes happen and, more often than not, you will be held financially responsible.
