Chronic pain is an ongoing problem, much like diabetes and hypertension. Blood sugar and blood pressure can be kept under control with ongoing treatment, but it isn't often that the condition is just "cured" once and for all. We try to keep the patients in the best state possible for as long as possible, and giving the best value we can to both the patients and the payers.
Just because they're been going 7+ years doesn't mean everyone has gone 7 years. I have a degenerative disc disease. They do injections for pain and inflammation. Doing so helps delay survey, continue to swim, do yoga, hike and take long walks . I've seen my dentist for 20 years . He hasn't cured my teeth from decay either.
I can't speak for everyone else, but for my condition the only thing they can do to correct the problem is to have another fusion which would really limit my mobility. I saw 5 different doctors that said do surgery or live off pain meds. After going to spinal interventions, they found more alternatives for me that didn't require pain meds. The option I chose was to burn my nerves so I don't feel the pain. Nerves regenerate themselves so I go get my nerves burned once a year. Granted, it doesn't correct the problem but I also don't need pain meds at all. Depending on how much pain you're in, it's at least worth one consultation visit!
Spinal Interventions is a great pain management clinic because they help manage chronic pain as a disease in its own right, and they look for alternative treatments to painkillers whenever possible, but also know that painkillers are a valid treatment option so long as they are closely monitored and used correctly. With chronic pain getting so much social stigma, this is vital. Many patients who go to pain management clinics are fortunate enough to have the underlying cause of their pain resolved and no longer need long-term pain management, but the rest that are not so fortunate need good care by understanding professionals who can treat them physically and help them deal with their conditions mentally and emotionally. Spinal Interventions has doctors and nurses who do that, and in the 6+ years I've been seen there, they have never made me feel ashamed or inferior because of my disease.
Alot of us had no other options to deal with pain. I have been helped physically and mentally to cope. While others have gone over the edge. Thank you
