Do not lose your receipt from Menards, otherwise you will experience difficulties. A no receipt return is possible, per the approval of a General Manager and they will ask to see and copy your ID. This is generally not something you want to rely on more than 1-2/yr - eventually they will refuse, depending on the item(s), they will call around other stores assuming plausible fraud. You receive lowest sale price ever in the form of a Merchandise Credit Check. With a receipt is easier - custom cut goods is at the whim of a Department Manager. They are a business, they don't want returns, if it's high dollar, expect a manager to show up at the service desk to dissuade you from returning the item(s). Inspect any large orders and be very scrutinous. Once you take custom orders or special orders home, if the product is defective, it will be significantly more difficult to make a return or even just exchange the damaged order for a reorder.
Every store has a kiosk near the main entrance. If you paid with a credit/debit card, you can look up the receipt. Also if you are a contractor and you have created a user name and password on the contractor part of the website, you can register whatever credit/debit card you use for purchases. Then you can lookup receipts through the website.
Good except on stuff with engines, they have a policy that as soon as you put oil or gas in something they won't take it back, usually I don't know if something with an engine functions before I put oil and gas in it. I will say this, if you talk to a manager they're pretty good with common sense and that usually takes care of the problem.
Having your receipt is golden ticket if you do not have your receipt they have a kiosk if you have the card that you use for purchase or you know your routing number account number on your check on your checking account if you do not have any of those you will have to provide an ID not expired you will get a store credit at the value of the last 12 months at the lowest price point if they have inventory of that product
