ID and a clean record
To add a little to Lisa's answer, you must have a valid VA ID or driver license, which has the correct address, and was issued more than 30 days ago for originals or duplicates. You must be a VA resident to purchase handguns, though most long guns may be sold to out of state residents, subject to the same restrictions on the ID from their home state. If the rifle is not legal to purchase in your home state, it's not legal to purchase it in VA. The background check questions are available for review on the Virginia State Police website. As for the old stuff on your record, Quinton, it depends on what it is. Some stuff goes away after a time, but other things stay with you for life. Please check the State Police website for more information.
