Native forbs like horseherb are found growing wild under oak trees in the wild here, and we sell lots of it in our nursery for its thick coverage and tiny yellow flowers. Dwarf tall fescues are sometimes planted in shady areas here with good results. They do require more mowing than most turfgrasses.
Buffalo grass is low water. By seed and st. Augustine is lush and out performs but requires more water...comes in sod only.
