Do you need to get there very early(and if so around what time) in order to get a picnic table/grill? Also is there a certain part that we need to go to in order to be near the swimming area, playground etc?

Just depends on the day... Monday through Friday there are not a whole bunch of people at the beach so you can go anytime of day and get a good picnic table and spot. Saturday and Sunday is the little different it's not super packed but there are a lot of people and you might want to get there early, but people do leave so there's a good chance that you can catch one of those tables once they leave. And on holidays is another story the line will be all the way down the street on the 4th of July so you have to get there super early.
