It's important to make a reservation on a holiday, Friday, or Saturday. If you have a large group or it's Oktoberfest. Otherwise, you can just show up.
There's rarely ever more than one table of guests there anymore. You have nothing to worry about.
Depending on the day you might. Mother's day / fathers day and the like you'd have to but on a regular day I'd call ahead just to make sure they're not booked up when you want to go. Either way, the food is amazing.
I would always call first even if it is not a weekend or holiday. They can get crowded with large groups for birthdays, funerals etc.
