My family actually calls ahead and asks for a "reservation," at least about 2 hours before when we have a large group. They put it down on a paper and they see it when you get there, but sometimes with how packed they are, you won't necessarily have a table waiting for you. What it does do is get you ahead of the line - so you don't have to wait as long as the other groups that didn't call ahead or make a "reservation." We've done this so many times, so I know it works.
