The difference is 3-D (when wearing the appropriate eyewear) makes things appear more realistic, to "come off the screen". The eyewear is provided by the movie theater.

Yes in order to watch 3-D movie you have to have a pair of 3-D glasses because if you don't then just go a 2 D movie instead OK.
