Usually patients are required to stop taking valium for 24 hours before they leave. Nurses administer medications. They do not give patients any valium to take home.
Usually Valium is given as a withdrawal ease
From our Nursing Department: Patients in Withdrawal Management receive individualized patient care based on a comprehensive nursing assessment that focuses on the subjective/objective signs & symptoms of withdrawal. As a result of the assessment, the patient may receive a variety of different medications to help manage their symptoms. The nurse may also provide non-pharmaceutical interventions, such as patient education that focuses on actions the patient can take to facilitate their comfort such as warm showers, hydration, and meditation. The average duration of withdrawal management is 5-7 days, depending on the individual's drug of choice. Before a patient receives a planned discharge from withdrawal management (detox), a patient must demonstrate stabilization. Stabilization means the patient demonstrates no withdrawal symptoms and has not required medication to manage withdrawal symptoms for 24 hours prior to their planned discharge. Hope that answers your question.
Yes, Valium is one of the medications used to help manage withdrawal symptoms... Valium is tapered down until the final day which is called the no Valium day.. At that point the patient can get a successful discharge from detox and either leave the facility or stay for a 28 day short term rehab program.
