You have to go to ARC to see them to adopt and also do meet and greets etc. You cant just walk in and walk out with a new pet. When you adopt you do a meet and greet, then they have to be spayed or neutered which can also take a week. It's a process to make sure neglected and abused animals go to a good home.
Most shelters have a page on their website where they post pictures of their animals available for adoption.

Last Saturday we went and all but 1 dog was a bulldog/mix.
