Geofencing is a technique that sends ads to mobile phones that are relevant and timely to consumers. The timing of the ads sent can be done based on location in a building, a zip code or a neighborhood. Think of Geofencing like an invisible barrier, it can be any size, precisely targeted and it's active all the time. Geofencing is also sometimes called audience targeting, location based marketing, mobile phone advertising probably best describes it.

This term is interchangeable with other terms like: Geo-Fence, Mobile Targeting, Audience Targeting, Geo Targeting, Mobile Ads or Location Based Marketing. The short answer is, we use GPS along with apps on a cell phone to advertise a local business to local consumers. We use proprietary software that targets mobile phones when they enter a specific area known as a Geofence. The Geofence can be set up by zip code, neighborhood, city, county, state and can be as specific as one building or one event over the course of hours like an auction or days like a state fair or months like a local election. Geofencing is a form of location based marketing where a business can brand itself in any area it chooses, having the consumer take any number of actions. Did you know that Uber uses Geofencing. Walmart uses it's own app for Geofencing and delivers coupons and e-receipts.
