Once I join with a guest do they have to come with me or can they come anytime by themselves?

I've been told by employees that once a guest signed in and showed i.d. (entering them into the system) that guest was allowed to workout on their own, without the member being present. Were they lying? (3 different locations said the same thing, but people's answers here totally contradict that.)
