No it is not required that you go through the trainee program. The training program simply gives you the chance to get experience in the trade and gives you a couple points in your favor when you submit your application for the apprenticeship.

no, but it will give you some points towards your overall on the entry test. Also this would give a chance to experience the field and see if this is what you really wanna do.

No, you don't have to go through the training program.but it's good for you and it gives you the advantage of being prepared for the next level's you will be facing so you are ready to move forward
