In Layton there is a place that is called Wimmers, they do have classes that are offered for what you are looking for, but if they can't fill a class then it's hard to do it. I know my sister drove up from Draper as did a few others. She found the class exceptionally helpful. It's on east gentile I believe.

I take a couple clases!! Wimmers are a good place!!
Joanne's, Sew & Save also have various sewing, knitting, crocheting classes, quilting also.
