Is there a specific type of helmet that is required when riding the mini bikes? I'd like to bring my own helmet but I am not sure if they require a motorcross bike helmet to ride the mini bikes

Mini bikes is a full face helmet, they might accept DOT approved for the minimum standard. Snell SA2015 or newer will for sure work.

A full face motorcycle helmet with current Snell date (Snell recommends cycling helmets every 5 years - 10 years old is max)
