I would like to know why the Church is still having people drink out of the chalice when there is a serious flu epidemic. Also shaking of the hands is another way of spreading the flu. Why is the Church not addressing this problem?

Probably because that's how the church has done it for numerous years? If you are concerned with the flu, its probably best to get a flu shot.

In the past St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Raleigh has stopped the hands holding or shaking when offering 'peace' to one another. There was a time when the church would have everyone hold hands across the aisle, but after one outbreak of the flu several years ago, that practice was stopped. I guess it isn't at the point of being a crisis in this area as it was several years ago. At one point the church even had hand sanitizers in every bathroom and counters throughout the church and school. After the crisis was over the community never started that again. It was also explained at that time that the alcohol in the wine would kill most germs. I have no facts to that statement as to whether or not is true. As with any thing that involves the flu or colds, health pundits say you should always wash your hands after being out and about. Keeping in mind that you can catch a cold or flu and not just by shaking hands.
