We use lawn dirt, mixed with potting soil.You can also put Rock's in the bottom for more filling

Using some kind of agragate like gravel, lava rock with bark mulch and a little soil makes for good drainage. Feed weekly and you'll have some very happy plants

Depends on what you're planting. I had roses, so half potting soil, half rose soil. Do you need your mixture to retain moisture or to drain well? Talk to a certified nurseryman at one of the nurseries
