You don't at the hospital you will fill out some paper work and receive your card like 2 weeks in the mail...you will need your dd214
I just went in there last week and got mine. It takes 2 mins. Not including the wait time. I waited maybe 20 - 30 mins. Wasn't to bad. You have to go to the front on the VA, main doors. And there is a new building to the right. The welcome center. Go right in there. First desk you see. Oh and parking is hell there. Would suggest going either super early or right before 4pm. 4pm is when those slackers that work there really stop trying. Good luck.
