It would be least expensive to park at a metro parking garage outside the downtown area and take the metro train in.
Theres a parking garage for $10 literally right down the street....
The Navy yard area in DC is always a good place to park. You can take subway from there directly to the subway exit less than a block from the museum.
Parking on street or elsewhere in the area is limited at best.
