It is the work of Spanish-born sculptor Jose de Creeft (1900-1982). This sculpture was commissioned by George Delacorte for his wife and the enjoyment of the children of New York City I recommend spending time to enjoy Lewis Caroll's whimsical characters White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Dormouse, and the Cheshire Cat. Let me know if this answers your question.

It is a piece of art commissioned for the public space. It is large and bronze. There are several quotes in encircling t g e sculpture. Just walk around it. Also in the same area is a statue for Hans Christian Anderson. (Ducklings....) story time is held there on summer weekend mornings.

For art and enjoyment. Sort of has turned into a spot for tourists to take pictures with characters from the book though.
