They do check your ammo before you go back, probably can't shoot Russian ball ammo...
You may use Berdan primed ammo. The restrictions are on the bullet. No steel core, steel jacket, armor piercing, or incendiary. If the projectile sticks to a magnet you may not use it. Steel cased is fine. No steel jacket allowed. Lots of Eastern European ammo is steel with a copper coating, or is bimetal. Not allowed.
