That's a scam and the real Social Security Administration is aware of it. One of the messages people get now is that their SS number has been compromised and has been linked to criminal activity and if they don't call some number, criminal charges will be filed. The SSA doesn't keep track of our SS numbers and will never call and threaten with any kind of action, be it civil or criminal. You don't even have to waste your time contacting the SSA. They already know about it
