Hi Leslie, We recommend all new patients have a comprehensive exam and necessary radiographs completed with our doctors prior to having a cleaning, for a number of reasons. There are occasionally exceptions where the doctors approve patients to have a cleaning and periodic exam, but that is more of the exception than the norm. Our comprehensive exams last about an hour and a half, versus a periodic exam which lasts about ten minutes. We would be happy to answer any further questions you might have!
