It is not allowed but they won't question you because they don't want to offend anyone and potentially lose customers. I have worked for a walmart in town an a lady would use the baby changing stations in the restroom to change her little chihuahua's outfits. Feel free to bring in any animal you want.

I was told that pets can be in the store as long as they are not over in the food section.

Yes it is but there are no signs posted and that's where people get away with it! Plus the management staff don't in force it do to being scared of backlash from the person having the animal!
