It is pre civil war built home, one of the few Octagon houses left in the country. A little girl, Mary Elizabeth Caldwell died there after being burn in the kitchen. Also, the upstairs was used as a a hospital during the War. Many pieces of furniture have been brought in from different parts of the country as well. This seemed to amp up the activity. There is a family plot, plus confederate graves and slave graves on the property.
I know there was alot of blood shed there from the civil war. If you go on the tour the wonderful story teller will tell u all about it. Worth the money
Things that happened during the Civil War have a lot to do with it too.
