I work in a school system with state retirement benefits. I previously worked in the public sector and paid into social security for several years. Can I receive social security before retirement? Will this affect my state retirement?

I know that as a disabled person I receive SSDI based on my disability and prior earnings. Other than disability, SSA will not award Sovial Security benefits unless you are at retirement age. I would definitely call to confirm this.

I would call them and ask them directly. Just normal people like me and you are the ones who comment on here they will never even see this.
