I've been a tugboat Captain using this bridge for 26 years. Boats with barges take a long distance to stop, due to the extreme tonnage we're pushing. Sometimes a half mile or more, depending on current or wind. If we cut it too close, and hit the bridge, it could be down for repairs for weeks, and cost 100's of thousands in repairs, and even more in lost commerce, or environmental damage.. Be patient, humans live 25,000 days or more.
