Hello I have a 5 year old ferret that has been diagnosed with thyroid problems. The vet has him on meds every night but I am really concerned he is gaining weight and seems miserable.

There are many reasons for weight gain in ferrets. Thyroid conditions are pretty rare in ferrets, although possible. There are many other common issues that can result in weight gain, and these should be evaluated by an experienced veterinarian. If you are concerned about him, we would recommend that he be checked over - and some testing may be indicated. He is a senior ferret at 5 years old, so we recommend twice a year visits for wellness, in addition to visits if they are sick. Please contact our front desk at 704 932 8111 to schedule an appointment if you'd like us to take a look at your ferret!
