You can actually apply online. You do not have to apply in person but be prepared to wait a year. It took me a year and a half to get approved for SSI because I am under 65 and I had to be turned down once the get an attorney who specializes in disability claims. But with a stroke you should not have any problems. Praying for you all for health and blessing and a QUICK approval.

My husband had a stroke and cardiac arrest and his doctors can't work how would I apply for him.
