I was wondering if I could speak with someone who was at ground zero. I'm 20 years old and I want to understand more what it was like first hand on that horrible day. I think its important to know about this day and its story even bein horrific

It started off as any other day on the FDNY. When the attack happen at 8:46am there were twice as many Firefighters in every single firehouse..... We change tours at 9am...... Respond to the attacks the brothers know it was going to be a difficult Job. When flight 175 attacked the South Tower your whole mind set changed and you realize that one of you may not come back..... Fighting a high-rise fire caused by jet fuel was going to be difficult time...... But the brothers ran up both buildings saving thousands and thousands of Innocent Civilians..... It was a helpless feeling seeing people forced to jump out of the buildings...... But they know they had to get up and save people lives.....that's just what they did....it was the largest evacuation rescue in the history of the World....... All due to the heroic Acts of Firefighters, Police,. Civilians, and passengers on flight 93...... God bless you and Never Forget September 11!!

No I dont think I'm a hero at all. I work at uhaul I met a nyc police officer who was at ground zero. When a veteran comes through you say thank you for your service everyone knows that. I said thank you to this officer. He said it's not something to be thankful for. All i meant was thank you for your bravery. I didnt mean anything wrong at all. It's been churning in my gut that I offended this man. I dont know how to talk about this event. I know its something that needs to be done but I dont know how. I wanna understand. My dad was a firefighter in upstate ny he and his crew watched an had radios waiting to see if they needed to drive to nyc and help. I was 2 I dont remember this at all. I've seen the footage and what gets to me is the sound of the mayday alarms on the first responders. The thousands of them going off at once. I understand it was horrifying but I dont understand what it was like first hand.
