I think it's worth going if you appreciate historic buildings. Its also refreshingly simple and unpretentious in a city where those qualities are increasingly rare. The weather can be nice in August but you will likely encounter at least a couple days when it will be hellishly hot and humid. Think 35 celsius with a humidity index over 40. Those are good days for museums etc to avoid the heat. Have fun!
August in NYC may be hot and humid but the Ear Inn is definitely worth a visit. Nothing better than a cold beer out in front of the pub. Cheers
And by the way, they have a cozy patio outside, where the wind is blowing nicely, but you still can listen to the live music coming from the inside; I guess the best time to visit this place is night, when lots of places are already closed

I recently visited Ear inn. Totally worth the visit specially at night. The atmosphere is full of good vibes and music. The drinks are fantastic. The weather in NYC was super hot! Be prepared! Enjoy :)
The Ear inn is definitely worth a visit from 6pm on. The weather will be pretty hot and sweltering. If you have Mick or Eric as your bartenders, they're a great lot to hang out with!
