You don't necessarily need an appointment for DMV anymore but they have that option. Appointments are unavailable in some DMV places for the next 2 or so months, so better to do a walk-in. Just know that Appointments are served before walk-ins but you can check waiting time based on how many people are before you and all available appointment info from their website. I believe I saw appointment needed for road test if you need interpreter but to be sure check their website.
